Every month, it brings me immense joy to highlight some truly remarkable small business owners right here on my website and social media pages. This special spotlight is entirely free of charge because I truly believe in celebrating those who pour their hearts into their crafts and enrich our local communities.
This week, I'm thrilled to introduce you to Tanya, owner of 'Parvey Garden', a baker who crafts the most delicious produce for the people of Cheshire.
What does your business do?
I have a love for baking, and during lockdown, I set up an honesty box offering home-baked goods to walkers. After a brief break to spend time with my baby daughter, I've resumed and I’m now accepting orders for custom cakes, afternoon teas, and various other delicious treats!
‘Parvey Gardens’ is the name of my business, but also the name of my home, which is set in a charming 3-acre privately-owned garden in Sutton, Macclesfield. The gardens are open for charity and as part of the National Garden Scheme since 2023.

Why did you decide to start your business?
I've always enjoyed baking and sharing food with friends. When lockdown hit, I felt the need to connect with others and share my garden's produce with the community. My venture started with an honesty box, expanded into seasonal offerings like Christmas hampers, and led to new friendships and opportunities.
What challenges have you overcome in your business?
Starting in lockdown was challenging but provided an opportunity to make new friends and stay active. I navigated obstacles like baking during pregnancy, as boy did the kitchen get hot! But, now I’m back cooking up a storm in the kitchen and I've managed to balance work and life, embracing both motherhood and my passion for creating beautiful and delicious cakes.
What positive impact has your business made?
Parvey Garden isn't just about profit; it's about giving back and doing what I love. We support

various charities through our garden and by opening our doors to the community. My baking, particularly the cakes, brings joy to others and symbolises the heart of what I do at Parvey Garden, all with the support of my family and friends.
What is your favourite quote that resonates with your business ethos?
"Do what makes you happy!
You only live once!
Eat that cake!
